In September 2024, the Interreg IPA ADRION programme launched the ADCCAM2ZERO (Adopting CCAM 2ZERO) project, led by the University of Patras (Greece) and involving 11 partners from nine countries in the Adriatic-Ionian region.

The project aims to improve urban mobility by reducing inefficiencies in energy, material and space consumption caused by traditional transport patterns. By promoting zero-emission transport and connected, autonomous mobility, ADCCAM2ZERO addresses key challenges such as traffic congestion, pollution and under-utilised public transport.

The core of the project is Digital Twins technology, which enables data-driven analysis of different modes of transport, including ridesharing, public transport and cycling. This will help urban planners optimise infrastructure investments for greater societal benefits. In addition, the project promotes the use of sharing economy services such as car and bike sharing to reduce car dependency and improve sustainability.

The project also introduces a carbon market trading model that rewards sustainable mobility choices and aligns with local policies. It aims to foster partnerships between mobility service providers and urban planners to implement sustainable urban mobility plans that improve quality of life and serve as a model for the region.
