An info day was organized in East Sarajevo today, where the project "System for monitoring and managing production in a protected area - Smart Garden" was presented.
The info-day was organized by the Agricultural Cluster "SRP", in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska, the Agricultural and Electrical Engineering Faculties of the University of East Sarajevo.
The Dean of the Electrical Engineering Faculty of the University of East Sarajevo, Božidar Popović, said that the goal is to form the first digital agriculture center in the Republic of Srpska, but also in the entire region.
"We have already held discussions with two companies that are interested in the products that will be presented today, as well as the unitary system for managing greenhouse production, and we invite the relevant ministries to get involved and support such projects, which should result in the realization of the first digital agriculture center Popovic told reporters.
According to him, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, together with the Faculty of Agriculture, worked on the realization of a project where a microprocessor control was created with parameters from greenhouse production, which boil down to measuring temperature, soil moisture, pressure and managing all the devices that are installed in such a smart greenhouse.
The manager of the agricultural cluster "SRP", who is also the holder of this project, Željka Pejović, noted that the realization of the project was made possible by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Srpska, which provided financial resources.
"They supported us with 7,360 BAM, and I think that together like this we have created a great thing that will surely be used more widely. In this way, we prove that we are keeping up with the times and that we follow new technologies that will be in the first place for agricultural producers, because they will facilitate and improve agricultural production", she stated.
"You don't have to be close, you will have all the information. An upgrade is also planned, this is just the beginning of a big and good story", she said.
Pejović pointed out that so far the procurement of greenhouses for 548 producers has been supported, which is a very large number, and now through the new READP project, which started last month, we will enable interested producers to acquire this system and thus improve production.
Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture Grujica Vico said that the project was realized on the topic of creating a prototype of a smart garden, a system for online monitoring and management of greenhouse production.
He says that this is one of a series of activities at the University of East Sarajevo in the field of digitalization of agriculture, and that an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the Faculty of Agriculture and Electrical Engineering has been created.
"In the last two to three years, we managed to create about three or four new solutions that are specific because they are acceptable and most suitable for small agricultural farms and farms in hilly and mountainous areas.
There are various IT solutions in agriculture, but most of them are intended for large farms, and the specificity of our product is that it is adaptable for farms like those in our region", he said.
Vico mentioned that there is a very good connection between the faculty and farmers and other entities and that they come to them with problems that they solve in this way.
